Famed Olympic sprinter Wilma Rudolph proves that nothing is impossible. Born prematurely, in a family of 21 children, with little to no resources to sustain a professional sports career, Wilma faced even bigger challenges when she was stricken with polio, particularly given that this was in the 1950’s.
Still, she boasted an unstoppable strength. Nothing - not polio, social barriers, financial limitations or otherwise – would be able to stop her.
To her doctor’s surprise, by the time she was 12, Wilma overcame her polio and started to walk again. She even began to compete as an athlete. Eight years later, she was already an Olympic champion. Wilma defied all odds and won three gold medals at the Summer Olympics in Rome, in 1960. She retired shortly afterwards, in 1962, and then devoted the rest of her life to coaching underprivileged children. Catch a glimpse of her incredible story below.
Matthew 19:26 reminds us that all things are possible with God. With what do you struggle presently? May the hope of God bolster your heart and provide you strength to move forward! AND…may the story of your life and legacy serve as an inspiration to others as you fulfill that to which you are called!
